‘Let the Right One In’ DVD shipping with wrong subtitles.

posted 2 years ago

The folks over at Icons of Fright have a really nice comparison of the subtitles from the Theatrical release and the Region 1 DVD release of the critically acclaimed ‘Let the Right One In’.

“The subtitles had been drastically changed since the last time I saw it, and dare I say… had been completely dumbed down? Sure, the basic gist of what the characters were saying was kind of there, but missing completely was the darkhumorsubtleties and character nuances which made the movie so powerful and a favorite amongst audiences last year.”

This kinda peeves me off.  Some are making the assumption that the distributor didn’t want to pay the Theatrical subtitle maker again for the DVD release, so, they used someone else, or from what it looks like, Google Translate. I haven’t seen this yet, but, it’s marked for next in my Netflix queue.

UPDATE: The film’s distributor Magnet films has agreed to release an updated version with the Theatrical subtitles. But, will not be doing exchanges for people who already purchased the DVD or Blu-Ray.
